Much has been made about the Celtics missing a defensive inside presence after Kendrick Perkins. Many were saying that the Celtics did not have the kind of great help defender to run the Celtics vaunted defense the way that it needs to be run.However, those people were dead wrong. Jermaine O’Neal showed against the Washington Wizards that he is ready to be the man the team needs in the drive for Banner 18. JO was an absolute beast this evening in his first extended minutes since returning from injury.
In a shade under 39 minutes (that is not a typo the man doubled his minutes average), JO was everything the Celtics need in the middle come playoff time. JO rotated great and was tremendous on both the pick and roll defense and help defense. He altered shot after shot and drive after drive. Jermaine O’Neal would end up with a tremendous five blocks and eight defensive rebounds. The man was a force defensively.
Jermaine also looked solid in the Celtics offense. He would set great picks to free up his guards.Despite struggling with his shot at times, JO would find a way to score 15 points. He would help that cause by grabbing five offensive rebounds and scoring off many of those.
The bottom line is depute a loss, the Celtics got great news. JO is ready to be the man that they need come playoff time. If the team gets Shaq back as well, the Celtics will be the dominant team that was clearly the best team in the East for most of this season. I believe that this is on the horizon. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!
